    Craigslist loses adult edge
    Maryland Leader
    Sunday 5th September, 2010

The Craigslist adult site has been taken from one of the most used sections of its website.

Craigslist has replaced the link to the adult section with a black bar that says: “Censored.”

The listings came under scrutiny from the Attorneys General of various states in the US after the jailhouse suicide last month of a former medical student who was awaiting trial in the killing of a masseuse he met through Craigslist.

The state attorneys general had already become concerned there weren’t enough protections in the list for blocking potentially illegal ads promoting prostitution.

They said Craigslist should remove the section because it couldn’t block potentially illegal ads promoting prostitution and child trafficking.

Critics had likened the services to virtual pimping.
